Insulation is defined as a material or combination of materials which retard the flow of heat, reduce sound transmission or slow down the spread of fire. The materials can be adapted to any size, shape or surface.

One of the common and widely known insulation is mineral wool which is made from molten glass, stone or slag that is spun into fibre-like structures.

Mineral wool insulation has a unique range of properties that can be used in:

• Buildings for thermal comfort and improved energy efficiency
• Soundproofing as a means of reducing the intensity of sound
• Fire protection to save lives, properties and businesses

It comes in different forms such as blankets, slabs, rigid, loose-fill and sectional pipes.

Glass wool is made from sand or recycled glass, limestone and soda ash. Stone wool is made from volcanic rock, typically basalt and dolomite.
